Community Programs

The Currituck County Sheriff’s Office maintains a community oriented approach to law enforcement in the County. With regular patrols throughout the neighborhoods and entire community, as well as security checks on all businesses in the county, we pledge to maintain order, security, and tranquility to the area.

The Sheriff’s Office participates in the following programs/special services:

  • Shop with a Deputy - Several Officers volunteer to go one-on-one and shop for Christmas with children who are selected to participate in the program.
  • RU OK? - This program is set up through the cooperative efforts of the Currituck Senior Center and Mount Zion United Methodist Church. "RU OK?" provides a welfare call to senior citizens to verify they are okay.
  • Child Identification Kits- The Sheriff’s Office provides Child Identification Kits to parents of small children. These easy-to-use kits assist in identifying a child should he or she be reported as missing. Persons requesting kits for distribution to large groups of children (such as at an event) need to call the Sheriff's Office (252-453-8204) at least 30 days in advance. It is recommended that a new photo be placed in the kit each year and that kits are stored in a cool, day place.
  • S.H.O.C.K.S. Program- Sheriff’s Helping Our Children’s Knowledge of Safety is a program directed at students who are at driving age and educating them on the effects of alcohol while operating a motor vehicle.
  • Neighborhood Watch Programs- This program is designed to gear the residents into taking steps to protect and monitor their individual neighborhoods. Those interested in forming a Neighborhood Watch Program should contact the Sheriff’s Office Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Check out additional information on Currituck County community watch program.
