Currituck County Sheriff's Office & Albemarle Area Project Lifesaver

On Friday December 1st 2006 Sheriff Susan Johnson and the Albemarle Area Project Lifesaver Program was Officially opened for enrollment of applicants.

What is Project Lifesaver ?

Albemarle Area Project Lifesaver is an innovative program that is aiding victims of Alzheimer's disease, Dementia, and other related disorders such as Down Syndrome and Autism. This program is specifically designed for individuals who have a tendency to "wander" away from home.

Trained search specialist using electronic tracking equipment can greatly reduce the amount of time it takes to find an individual who has wandered from the home. This quick response and shorted search times can make a life or death difference in "bringing loved ones home."

How does it work ?

Project Lifesaver relies on proven radio tracking technology and specially trained search and rescue teams. Clients that are enrolled in the program wear a personalized wristband that emits a tracking signal. When caregivers notify law enforcement that the person is missing a search and rescue team responds to the wanderer's last known location and starts searching with a mobile locator tracking system. Search times have been reduced from hours and days to minutes using this system.
